Hindered Ambition

"Hindered Ambition" is the fifth painting of the series "Leugnung" (denial), a private body of work that addresses the human dilemma of having to hide emotions, desires, fears and urges in order to comply with societal norms.

"Hindered Ambition" in particular tells about high hopes and adventurous plans that are withdrawn to concentrate on simpler and easier to reach goals. Goals that might bring financial stability fast and for certain, but also completely take away the possibility to become more than just ordinary. 

"Hindered Ambition" is as well a selfportrait, for I had a lot of plans and ambitions myself as a young woman which I had to suppress, mostly for financial and circumstantial reasons. To these setbacks and wasted time in my early development I still look back to with sorrow.
